Introduction
DomainPriceMonitor.com server (DPM) hosts a website together with live database of coupons. However, mobile application will always use LOCAL database copy located in your phone's flash memory. This way, your network connection is not being used when browsing through coupons data. To check for new coupons data on the server you could press "Refresh" button. Application would also quickly check server automatically when being launched. In case when new data were detected on the server, application will then copy compressed data into your phone (about 10 Kb compressed). When loaded into your phone, the uncompressed database would occupy about 100-150 Kb. For comparison, just one
MP3 song would take at least
30 times more space than our entire database.

Best Coupons Database
We receive coupons data directly from registrars, advertising networks, from Twitter and Facebook, and from the Internet. We use special software to
VERIFY all the data published on DPM. As additional protection, we will be adding a feature to complain about non-working coupons. We want our users to always know best working domain coupon codes - in seconds - for any transaction!

Reading Coupon Data
/no coupon/ - this is NOT A COUPON CODE! We use this label to indicate that this price is available by default, i.e. without any need to manually enter coupons.
/link/ - certain GoDaddy coupons do NOT work when entered manually and have to be embedded into specially formatted hyperlink (this is different from affiliate links). For your convenience, we generate such links on DPM website and also inside the app. To activate such coupons, click on the /link/ label to see Coupon Details screen, and then click on the LINK element to open GoDaddy website in the new browser screen. At GoDaddy, there you should see a message saying something like this: "SPECIAL OFFER! .COMs just $5.99* per year ... blah blah. Your discounted price should be automatically reflected in GoDaddy's shopping card - without any need to enter promo codes.
Privacy - when domain price is displayed using green color like $7.99, this means that Whois Privacy (aka Whois Guard) is already included into that price.
Domain Price - we show coupons ordered by Price so it is easier to compare. Most of the time, our prices should be accurate. However, in some cases like "$10 OFF on orders of $30+" it may be hard to figure out exact price (per 1 domain) that you might get in YOUR order. We assign estimated averaged Domain Price for such coupons using straightforward calculations.

Widgets
This application includes 2 widgets. One is SMALL and only shows current best prices for COM, NET, ORG new registrations. Another widget is a bit larger and shows prices for COM, NET, ORG, INFO, CO, US, CA. Both widgets may also show a green or red arrow on the side, signalling Today's price change compared to Yesterday's price. Widget data will be updated approximately every 6 hours. To save most possible battery juice, the system will not do any checks until your phone becomes active. It has been coded NOT to wake up your phone's CPU or Network just to update widget data. Also, widget data are really small (like 160 bytes or 0.16 Kb or 0.00016 Mb) and make no noticeable effects on your network usage.
Adding Widget to Your Home Screen:
- We suggest that you have available internet connection at the moment when attempting widgets installation to your screen
- On your home screen, find some empty space then tap AND HOLD your finger there until Android menu pops up
- In the menu, select "Widgets" or "Android Widgets" (depending on your phone's software)
- Now you should see the list of widgets available in your system. Look for our widgets called "Domain Coupons Large" and "Domain Coupons Small"
- Tap on desired widget and it will be then added to your home screen
- The widget will show "WAITING FOR NETWORK" until it receives the data from server. Usually this just takes seconds if you have an active internet connection.
- If no network connection was available, then it may show "WAITING FOR NETWORK" up to 6 hours even when connection becomes available. To get rid of this message, click on the widget to run application and press "Refresh" button inside the app. Among other things, this will fetch data for the widget and so it should start showing current best prices.
Deleting Widget from Your Screen:
- Tap and hold your finger on the widget
- Slide the widget to the trash can at the bottom of the screen

Android Notifications
Android Notifications are generated under the following conditions:
- when new registration price drops below $5 for all TLDs besides .INFO
- when new registration price drops below $1 for .INFO
As usuall, Android Notifications will be displayed in the Status Bar located at the top of your screen.
If notification text is too long to fit into 1 line, you could tap on it and hold your finder. Then text will start moving to the left so you could read the entire message.
Notifications could be Disabled by launching our app then pressing "Menu" button while on the app's main screen, then "Settings" menu option, and then using notification controls section to Enable / Disable notifications from our application.
Also, for more customizeable notifications you could use Email Alerts.

Email Alerts
Some of the best $1 .COM sales at Godaddy are short-living, they usually last just 2-5 days before reaching their limits. Also, when RENEWALS go on sale, the best deals usually do not last long. We have seen sales that lasted just ONE day.
So it may make sense to setup email alerts in order not to miss the best NEW or RENEWAL (or TRANSFER) opportunities.
You could setup multiple email alerts based on desired price drop, registrar, domain types, and transaction type. Please go to
DomainPriceMonitor.com and set up as many alerts as you prefer.
Each email message would include links to unsubscribe or modify your alert. Your email address will not be shared to any 3rd party. Also, below is the link to our complete Privacy Policy

Email Address - we only obtain / record your email address if you create email alert at DPM website. Your email address will not be shared to any 3rd party.
Tracking - we create a unique installation ID and pass it to the DPM server as a parameter in order to provide a normal application functioning. This ID is totally different from your Android ID, or any other system ID and it does not contain any identifying personal information whatsoever.
IP Address - on the server side of DPM, we use standard web server logging procedures that log IP Address of your phone (or your computer) so we could trace system abuse attempts, analyze traffic stats, etc. This is a standard practice for most network applications and websites.

Network Usage
One of our goals was to minimize network usage created by app. Below is a brief description of network traffic generated by the app depending on a situation.
a) Browsing through Coupons Data
Since all the data are stored in the local database, there is
ZERO traffic being generated when using app to browse, read, sort or filter coupon data.
b) Pinging server status and updating Widget
This happens automatically about 2-4 times per day (every 6 hrs when your phone is not asleep, and also when application starts) and this downloads
160 Bytes of data. How much would this consume PER MONTH? 3 times * 160 bytes = 480 bytes / day, or 0.5 Kb / day, * 30 days = about 15 Kb PER MONTH. To put this into prospective, ONE VISIT to Google's home page (in your desktop PC) weights about 110 Kb. So
1 visit to Google's home page ==
7 months of pinging server / updating our widget. So this just adds about 0.015 Mb / MONTH to your network usage, or 1/7 of one visit to Google home page for the whole month...
c) Refreshing data from server
When you press "Refresh" button, and ONLY if server has new data, it downloads small
compressed file sized about
10 Kb, or 0.01 Mb. To put this into prospective, one visit to Facebook home page weights about 210 Kb, Twitter home page - about 450 Kb, Yahoo home page - about 360 Kb (these data are for desktop browser)

Battery Life
We wanted to be sensitive to your battery as much as possible. So we made a decision NOT to wake up CPU or Network when your phone is asleep. Once you MANUALLY bring your phone to active state, it will then pick a moment and silently update widget / ping server (160 bytes, see above), if time has come (realistically up to 3 times per day). If you keep your phone asleep for the whole day, there will be NO battery wasted or network usage because of our app. Compare this to GMail account sync that goes back to server every 15 minutes. If your phone works fine with GMail, it will definitely tolerate our very very modest application.

Upcoming Features

- More European and Asian TLDs and Registrars
